Agnieszka Monika Walecka
Acting Director of Teatr Syrena
producer, coordinator of a technical and production team, currently acting as a director of Teatr Syrena. She graduated from SGH Warsaw School of Economics (international relations) and Marne-la-Vallee University (economic relations). She worked for European institutions in Brussels such as European Parliament and Polish Embassy as well as in Edinburgh (Fringe Festival) and Los Angeles (Cirque du Soleil). In Poland she worked for non-governmental organizations(Amnesty International spokesperson) and institutions of culture (media coordinator for Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera). For 7 years Monika Walecka was in charge of theatre productions in Teatr Syrena. She co-operated among others with Jacek Mikołajczyk, Wojciech Kościelniak, Bogusław Linda, Wojciech Malajkat, Adam Sajnuk and Michał Walczak heading up teams of a few dozen of technicians and artistic ensembles.
Jacek Mikołajczyk
Deputy Artistic Director
A director, a translator and a theatrologist. His debut on a professional stage took place in 2015 in Teatr Muzyczny in Gliwice. Over there he translated and directed “The Addams Family”, a musical by Andrew Lippa, for which he received a Golden Mask, an award as the best music show director. He translated among others the following musicals: “Sister Act”, ”Hair”, ”Ragtime”, “Tarzan” or ”High School Musical”. Between 2002-2014 he was as an art director of Gliwicki Teatr Muzyczny. He is a graduate of the University of Silesia (cultural studies) and the Cracow Academy for the Dramatic Arts and the Academy of Music (direction of music theatre). He has a PhD title and is active as an associate professor in the Institute of Culture and Interdisciplinary Studies of the University of Silesia, he lectured at the University of Washington in Seattle (2012-2013) at Artes Liberales Department of the University of Warsaw (2014-2015). A Fulbright scholarship holder. In 2010 he published the first and so far the only monography on the musical in Poland entitled "Musical nad Wisłą”. Jacek Mikołajczyk co-operates as an expert and feature writer with numerous music theatres in Poland. For Program Drugi of the Polish Radio he co-hosts, together with Macin Zawada, his own programme entitled "Ten cały musical”. For Teatr Muzyczny w Poznaniu he translated and directed the musicals "Sister Act" and ”Nine" and for Teatr Syrena: "The Witches of Eastwick" and "next to normal”.
Tomasz Filipczak
Music Director
A pianist, composer, arranger, conductor, music producer and, since 2018, a music director of Teatr Syrena. He graduated from the Jazz and Popular Music Department of the Academy of Music in Katowice (composing and arranging). He co-operated with the Warsaw Musical Theatre ROMA as a pianist and a conductor during, among others: ”Miss Saigon”,”Peter Pan” and ”Five Guys Named Moe”. He worked for Teatr Muzyczny in Gdynia as a composer, conductor and music director (“Opentaniec”, “Grease”) and as an arranger (“Footloose” and ”Fame”). In Teatr Rampa in Warsaw he was a music director of ”Rent” and ”Jesus Christ Superstar” (editions 2016 and 2017). Tomasz Filipczak has been co-operating with Janusz Stokłosa and Janusz Józefowicz for most productions of Teatr Studio Buffo. He worked for the Polish television (among others at ”Dancing with the Stars” and the National Festival of Polish Song in Opole). Between 2012-2018 he was a music director of the Polish version of "Name That Tune". As a producer and an arranger he co-operates with such artists as Robert Janowski or Janusz Radek.
